Andy Flower (Essex CCC and ex-Zimbabwe, born 28 April 1968 in Cape Town, South Africa) played 63 Test matches for Zimbabwe, scoring 4,794 runs at an average of 51.54 and taking 151 catches and 9 stumpings, and 213 one-day internationals, scoring 6,786 runs at an average of 35.34 and taking 141 catches and 32 stumpings.

He holds the Zimbabwean records for the most Test career runs, the highest Test batting average, and most ODI career runs. He is the only Zimbabwean in the ICC's Top 100 All-time Test Batting rankings at Number 24, putting him in the company of Brian Lara (ranked 19), Sachin Tendulkar (20), Steve Waugh (23) and Rahul Dravid (25 in September 2006).

In September 2001, Andy headed the FICA/PwC Ratings for batsmen. Only four other batsmen had occupied this slot in the previous six years: Steve Waugh, Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar and (very briefly) Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Andy ventured out to Abu Dhabi with his (then) Essex CCC teammates in March 2007 to take part in our inaugural event and was suitably impressed by his experience:

“I took part in the very first Pro Cricket ARCH Trophy in March 2007. The combination of Stadia, Hotels, Event Organisation and Cultural Experience has convinced me that the ARCH Trophy is the very finest touring opportunity available to any cricketer anywhere in the world today. I truly believe it should be part of every schoolboys cricketing education.”

Andy is now employed as Assistant Coach to the English Cricket Team alongside Peter Moores.

Gus Mackay CEO, Sussex CCC

“I was extremely impressed by the quality of the tour we (Sussex CCC) experienced this year and of the professionalism that Arabian Cricket Ltd have shown in all of our dealings to date. The ARCH Trophy concept is the perfect pre-season tournament combining a competitive environment and unbelievable playing facilities with a relaxing and beautiful setting.”

David East CEO, Essex CCC

“I would like to thank Sport Arabia Ltd for arranging and supporting Essex County Cricket Club during our tour to Dubai and the UAE. They could not have been more helpful than they were: nothing was too much trouble! When we tour the UAE again we would not hesitate to use Sport Arabia.”

mustaq ahmed

Mushtaq Ahmed (Sussex CCC and ex-Pakistan, born 28 June 1970 in Sahiwal, Pakistan) played 52 Test matches for Pakistan, taking 185 wickets and 144 ODI’s taking 161 wickets.

A bubbly, leg spinner with googlies aplenty, Mushtaq Ahmed is styled on his hero Abdul Qadir, whom he succeeded in the team.

He is a match winner with a full house of leg spin variations. At his best he is not far behind Shane Warne, but he does not get the in-drift and rip that makes Warne unique and he gets less bounce because of a lower arm. Mushtaq has also suffered the vagaries of the Pakistan system. But his enthusiasm remains undimmed, despite being out of the team since a poor run of form in 2000-01.

Some of his most memorable performances have been away from home, in England and Australia, and he played a key role in propelling Imran Khan’s Tigers to World Cup glory, memorably snaring Graeme Hick with one of his googlies. In 2003 he became the first bowler in five years to take 100 wickets in the English season, a return which was instrumental in guiding Sussex to the first Championship title in their history. This achievement was repeated in 2006 and again helped Sussex to regain the coveted Championship title.

Mushtaq is keen to act as an ambassador for Sport Arabia and it is intended that he will be hosting Spin Bowling Master-classes during the tournaments:

“I am really pleased to be involved with the ARCH Trophy. I see this as a great opportunity for young people to play great cricket, but also for making friendships between teams of different nationalities and religions.”
